About you
We are looking to recruit passionate, dedicated, and highly motivated individuals to deliver across multiple channels this can include on the phone, in the community, and on digital platforms.
The successful candidate will be willing to learn, have good communication skills, and a commitment to being part of a high-quality service. Our Advice Academy offers a fully rounded training package that will support individuals to have the ability to cover a wide range of advice issues.

Advice Giving
• Interview clients appropriately adopting either the generalist or specialist advice model as agreed and using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.
• Use the Citizens Advice Information System and other sources to find, interpret and communicate the relevant information.
• Carry out comprehensive benefits check, exploring the range of available state entitlements.
• Identification of emergency issues and advice on how to move forward with those emergency issues.
• Identification and assessment of eligibility for grants and other one-off support, signposting to local Citizens Advice or other agencies for more localised grants that may be available.
• Determination of whether a food bank referral is needed by establishing that the client is unable to afford food as part of the advice interview, if required, an e-referral will be made to the local food bank.
• An initial assessment of wider advice needs, client offered information and, where required, advice.
• Identify appropriate agencies and signpost for onward support (this may be a local office or another specialist advice provider).
• Undertake all aspects of advice service delivery including web chat and email, adviceline and initial checks.
• Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.
• Act for the client where necessary by calculating, negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.
• Carry out and/or comply with Independent File Reviews as required by the Office Manual within prescribed time limits.
• Negotiate with third parties such as statutory and non-statutory bodies as appropriate.
• Refer internally or to other specialist agencies as appropriate.
• Ensure that all work conforms to CARCT’s Office Manual at the appropriate level.
• Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation.
• To ensure personal contribution is on profile to deliver against individual and collective targets.
Research and Campaigns
• Alert other staff to local and national issues.
• Assist with preparation of social policy reports
• Attend external liaison meetings as appropriate
• Provide statistical information as required
• Make sure research and campaigns is quantified as per the requirements set out within the office manual
• Contribute to internal Research and Campaigns meetings.
Professional Development
• Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures relating to advice work and undertake appropriate training.
• Read relevant publications.
• Liaise with a range of partner organisations to ensure optimum publicity for the Bureau and to promote attendance at training events.
• Prepare for and contribute to supervision sessions/team meetings/management team meetings as appropriate.
• Assist with Service initiatives for the improvement of services.
• Identify training opportunities for yourself.
Public Relations
• Liaise with statutory and non-statutory organisations and attend relevant internal and external meetings and events as agreed with the line manager.
• Deliver as required training on topics that fall within areas of expertise.
• To assist where possible in the generating of additional income for the organisation.
• Maintain good relations with outreach venues and actively seek out new venues as required.
• Help to assist where relevant in Social Media Activity for the organisation.
Volunteers
• Help and support volunteers where appropriate.
• Assist in the development and progression of volunteers where appropriate.
• Assist with the promotion of volunteer events and activities.
Administration
• Use IT for statistical recording, record keeping and document production.
• Ensure that all work conforms to the office systems and procedures.
• Provide statistical information on the number of clients and nature of cases.
• To ensure that cases are recorded within 3 working days.
Other duties and responsibilities
• Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.
• Contribute towards the annual report.
• Demonstrate commitment to the aims and policies of the CA service.
• Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
• To assist where possible in the generating of additional income for the Bureau.
• Make home/outreach visits as necessary in accordance with CARCT policy.
• Fully meet the mobility requirement to deliver advice on a peripatetic basis (where required).
• Contribute towards Annual report as required.
• Make efficient use of the Admin resources to maximise client focus.
• Carry out other tasks, cover other functions and roles, commensurate with your skills and experience on request.
• Act as support, supervisor and peer mentor to volunteers.
